Imagine the Velvet Underground jamming with Uncle Tupelo. We play a primitive-style Americana rock with an emphasis on great songs.

Reviews of The West End

The West End is great unplugged, hard rock. Their songs either tell you such an interesting story that you find yourself becoming one or more of the characters in the story or they sing a song that rocks into the depth of your soul. Some of their songs even do both -- you find yourself believing, for a moment in time that you are one or more of the characters in the song and the depths of your soul are being rocked. The West End is a band who knows each other, musically, extremely well, as you can tell in their body of work, in their personal appearances, and in the album, "Risen." The four play rock, almost as one.

Also, while they are primitive Americana rock, at the same time they remind me, some, in very positive ways, of the early Bruce Springsteen and what I imagine Billy Joel would have sounded like with more musical accompaniment. Joel might have been more interesting; The West End definitely is interesting, already. Yet The West End has a style of its own, which I find very unique.

Listen to the songs, on “Risen.” I think you'll hear an album you just can’t quite put down and stop listening to it; I did. The West End rocks! Enjoy rocking with them! -- John Cooper-Martin, on CD Baby

"You guys do a great job here and we love having you. You put on a fun high energy show and bring a wonderful crowd of people into the restaurant. I, along with the rest of the staff, always look forward to your shows and the opportunity that comes with them to meet so many people from the community here." -- Stephen Schadler, Manager of The Austin Grill Rockville

"The West End’s live performances are always pounded out with strength. The original songs, Rise and Walk, Free to Choose, and 24, from their very impressive first CD Risen were tightly done to perfection. There wasn’t a single part of their three hour show that left you wanting. Mike Shawn and Brad Rourke shared their time at vocals to present a wide range of rock traditions. The band’s camaraderie is always highlighted by the verbal libations of Randall Rose, which he interjects between his strong bass playing. The sharp beat of Monique DeFrees’ drums invigorated the crowd right down to the very last blast of Blue Flower. Their obvious thrill of being on stage truly spread throughout the crowd." -- Cynthia Cotte Griffiths, Rockville Central

"I had the pleasure to see the Rockville, Maryland natives the West End perform up in Georgetown recently. The way the crowd was worked was impressive to say the least. The West End are all rockers that know that the word 'rock'has been bastardized, twisted, and mutilated to the point where it encompasses practically anything. Risen looks to change that, returning rock to its proper place in the hallowed hallways of music. . . . [A]n impressive debut EP." -- J-Sin, Smother.net
